Vitamin A

Vitamin A also known as Retinol, is a fat soluble vitamin which plays an important role in the body’s vision growth and development. Vitamin A is an anti oxidant and may also assist in the maintenance of healthy skin, hair and mucous membranes.

The body cannot properly utilise protein without Vitamin A. Vitamin A is available in its own right as a tablet / capsule or through other supplements such as Cod Liver Oil and natural Beta-carotene, a carteniod. It occurs naturally in green and yellow fruits and vegetables.

Most of the body’s reserve of Vitamin A is stored in the liver. The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration has recommended 5,000 iu as the maximum recommended daily allowance (RDA) for Vitamin A as it is considered that taking large amounts of Vitamin A can be toxic to the body.
